Delhi CM Atishi’s Residence Sealed Amid Controversy, AAP Accuses BJP of Foul Play
New Delhi: A political controversy has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP-led Central government over the alleged forcible vacation of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) claims that the Lt. Governor, V.K. Saxena, is seeking to reallocate the residence to a BJP leader. Atishi moved into the official residence following her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, who vacated it days earlier.
Visuals of the residence circulated on social media, showing Public Works Department (PWD) officials arriving to seal the property. The CMO stated that Atishi’s belongings were forcibly removed, marking a first in the history of India regarding such an action against a chief minister. AAP MP Sanjay Singh added that the bungalow was not being allotted to Atishi and that her camp office was also vacated.
In response, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar criticized the Lt. Governor’s intentions, accusing the BJP of attempting to usurp the AAP government’s powers. Delhi assembly leader of the opposition, Vijender Gupta, called for an investigation into the matter, questioning the circumstances surrounding the vacation of the residence and the alleged conspiracy behind it.
